Bellmore NY Yellow Pages

Bellmore is a hamlet home on the South Shore of Long Island. It is known as a suburb of New York City being around 10 miles east of Queens and about 27 miles east of Manhattan. Englishmen that came from Connecticut crossing the Sound settled the area in the Seventeenth century. Thomas Southard purchased a farm with 214 acres in 1655. Around 1675, John Smith deeded his son Jeremiah 100 acres close to the bay. The hamlet was given its name by the railroad that was built through the area in 1867. Schools in Bellmore include Charles A. Reinhard Early Childhood Center for students in pre-kindergarten through 2nd grades, Winthrop Avenue School for 3rd and 4th graders, and Shore Road School for 5th and 6th graders. There are quite a few family attractions in Bellmore which include Gunther Field, East Bay Park, and the Newbridge Road Park. The area has so much to offer families including ice skating, swimming, golf, and basketball.
